Well, wasn't last night fun. Yea Haw for alcohol. That's the best I can say for the Iowa results. I'll get to the post caucus whine review later. Here is a brief overview of last nights wines. I was pleased with all four.
Ey Vigne Lavail Cotes du Roussillon Villages 2003 -- Very nice. If you're a fan of deep full robust reds, this is a wine for you. It's wonderful color combined with earthy tones of dark chocolate and bright cherry had a wonderful finish. At $18 this a great find. I bought a few bottles and plan to use one the next time I make beef bourguignon.
Chateau Mongravey Margaux 2004 -- More expensive at $31, this wine is a comforting blend of Cabernet and Merlot. It was wonderfully smooth on the tongue with gentle blackberry after tones. A nice wine, but there are many wines of equal quality and half the price.
Goldeneye Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2004 -- I had to have at least one California wine on the list. Normally, I'm not much for Pinot Noir, but this was wonderful. With an almost obscene muskiness with traces of good dark tobacco and a hit of bright fruit at the end, it is a wonderfully full wine with a long satisfying finish. True it's pricey at $43, but so worth it.
Duboeuf Julienas Chateau des Capitans 2004 -- I used this wine in the Coq au Vin as well served it with the meal. I don't run across many Beaujolais, but this had the wonderful aroma of red fruit and was deliciously light on the tongue. At $15 it would make a wonderful wine to enjoy in the summer.
Next time I think I will go with a rose or white flight.
